David Thorp

David Thorp is an independent curator. He was formerly Curator of GSK Contemporary at the Royal Academy, Wide Open Spaces at PS1 MoMA New York, Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Henry Moore Foundation, and Director of the South London Gallery, The Showroom and Chisenhale Gallery in London.

In 2004, David was a member of the Turner Prize jury and has also been Associate Director for Artes Mundi, the biannual contemporary art exhibition and prize at the National Museum of Wales. In September 2012 was appointed Interim Director at Modern Art Oxford.

More recently he set up The Performance Studio, a production and rehearsal space, providing a creative space for invited artists to experiment with and cultivate live art related activities over an extended period of time. In Summer 2015, The Performance Studio took up new residence at The Nines on the Copeland Estate in Peckham. It hosts a programme of events encompassing performance, screenings and talks with invited artists, curators and guest speakers.
