Matters of Gravity

Saturday, March 14, 2015 - 09:45

Last year, directly inspired by The Arts Catalyst's zero gravity programme (2000-2004), which enabled teams of artists and scientists to create work onboard zero gravity parabolic flights with the European Space Agency and the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia, Arts Catalyst's Space Projects Associate Nahum Mantra organised an expedition of Mexican artists to Star City in Russia to perform artistic experiments in zero gravity.

The exhibition that resulted from that experiment is now on view at the Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City. La Gravedad de los Asuntos (Matters of Gravity) explores the conceptual possibilities of future creative practices in space. The work in the exhibition, by Tania Candiani, Ale de la Puente, Ivan Puig, Arcangel Constantini, Fabiola Torres-Alzaga, Gilberto Esparza, Juan Jose Diaz Infante, Nahum and Marcela Armas,  includes video, performance, sculpture, drawing, and installation. Download more information from the pdf on the left.

La Gravedad de los Asuntos continues at the Laboratorio Arte Alameda (Doctor Mora 7, Centro, Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City) until 22 March 2015.
The exhibition is touring internationally.
