Volunteer Event Staff and Performers Required

Arts Catalyst is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to support the upcoming event 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering Revisited, 1966/2016, a performance event on Friday 7 October. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for contemporary art, to gain experience working with a dynamic team to produce an event during Frieze week.

We are looking for two types of volunteers for the following event: performers (no previous experience required) and event staff.

Exactly fifty years after the legendary 9 Evenings: Theater and Engineering, Arts Catalyst revisits this hugely influential art event with a new performance commission by Robert Whitman. Whitman, a participating artist in the original 9 Evenings and co-founder of Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T) who produced it, presents Side Effects. This spectacular evening of performance will mix pre-recorded and live-streamed moving image from across the city, animated by a live performance unfolding over eight acts in the ex-industrial space of The Crossing, Kings Cross. Further event details

Role 1. Performers/ participants
Dates required: Flexible from Mon 26 September – Fri 7 October
Specific schedule will be confirmed during the interview process.
This role requires performers to work one on one with the artist Robert Whitman and other participants. The performance will be directed by the artist and his team. No prior performance experience is necessary but enthusiasm and the ability to follow instructions is essential. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with well-known performance artist Robert Whitman and participate in an event during Frieze week. It will be an excellent insight into performance art and event production.

Role 2. Event support staff
Dates required: Flexible from Mon 26 September – Sat 8 October
Event date: Fri 7 October
Event staff will take on a range of different roles before, during and after the event. Roles include stewarding, hosting, distribution of marketing material and event information, guestlist and ticketing and general event support. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside our Curator, Director, Programme Manager and Communications Officer.


No formal experience or qualifications are required. We require volunteers to be friendly, confident and engaged with the exhibition and our audience. This role requires the ability to work in a team. The role suits people wishing to gain experience in public engagement in a contemporary art context.
