Arts Catalyst is delighted to host the first in a new series of collaborative reading groups presented by Afterall, with the first session led by The Political Animal.

To mark each new issue of the journal, Afterall is inviting a UK-based reading group to identify a text from the current issue and pair it with external readings and films. To celebrate issue 47 we will be reading Filipa Ramos’s text ‘Other Faces: Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook's Interspecies Engagements’, screening a film by Rasjarmrearnsook and reading a secondary text focusing on the symbolic relationship between dogs and humans in contemporary Thailand. RSVP essential to to receive the pre-reading before the session.
The reading group will take place at Arts Catalyst within the context of Towards the Planetary Commons: Reimagining Infrastructures for Autonomy, an exhibition which explores the neoliberal policies imposed on communities of humans and non-humans to reinforce strategies of land usage which threaten biodiversity.
The Political Animal reading group was founded by Olga Koroleva in February 2016 and incorporates a monthly reading session and discussion, international exchange and exhibition opportunities supporting cross-disciplinary examination of inter-species relationships. Two satellite groups are based in Dublin and Edinburgh led by Jessica Conway and Tom Jeffreys respectively. Off-site collaborative readings have been held with The Showroom, Whitstable Biennale, Chisenhale Studios, Art Licks Weekend and Guest Projects.
